Secretary of State Powell Opening Remarks at the Afghan Reconstruction Steering Group Meeting

Secretary of State Colin L. Powell will deliver opening remarks at the Afghanistan Reconstruction Steering Group Meeting in the World Bank Annex (J Building) Auditorium, Room JB1-080 at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 26. The purpose of this meeting of the Steering Group is to sustain and strengthen the momentum of the international donor assistance effort in the period ahead. Secretary Powell will not respond to questions from the press.

Secretary Powell’s remarks are a Pooled Press Event for videocameras and still photographers. Please call the Department of State Public Schedule (202- 647-2497) after 6:00 p.m. tonight for pool contact information.

Journalists may cover this event upon presentation of either (1) a US Government-issued identification card (Department of State, White House, Congress, Department of Defense, or Foreign Press Center), (2) a photo ID issued by the employing media organization, or (3) a letter on official letterhead from their news organization verifying their employment as a journalist, accompanied by an official photo ID (driver’s license or passport).
