Question: Was the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Jerusalem discussed during the visit of Israeli Prime Minister Sharon? Answer: We are aware of the dispute between the Greek Orthodox Church and the Government of Israel regarding the appointment of a new patriarch in Jerusalem. We have raised the issue with the Government of Israel, and continue to monitor the issue carefully. We hope that the Church and the Government of Israel are able to reach a mutually agreeable solution soon. |
