Background Briefing on Community of Democracies

A senior State Department official will brief the press on the Community of Democracies conference on Monday, November 4, at 10:30 a.m. The background briefing will be held in the State Department’s press briefing room (room 2209).

Secretary of State Colin L. Powell will lead the U.S. Delegation at the coming Ministerial Meeting of the Community of Democracies, which will be held in Seoul, Republic of Korea, on November 10-12. The Community of Democracies is a unique gathering of nations from all regions of the world that share a commitment to building and consolidating democratic institutions in their own countries, their regions, and globally.

Copies of fact sheets, relevant speeches, and other handouts will be available on Monday, November 4 in the State Department’s Press Office (Room 2109). These documents will also be available for downloading from the State Department web site at http://www.state.gov/g/drl/democ/c7613.htm.

Press who attend this briefing should arrive at the 23rd Street entrance (between C and D Streets, NW) and must present either (1) A U.S. Government-issued identification card (Department of State, White House, Congress, Department of Defense or Foreign Press Center), (2) a media-issued photo identification card or (3) letter from their employer on letterhead verifying their employment as a journalist, accompanied by an official photo identification card (driver's license, passport). Press should allow adequate time to process through security and plan to be in the briefing room 10 minutes before the briefing
