African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) Business RoundtableThe Department of State is organizing a half-day business roundtable on the African Growth and Opportunity Act on Thursday, November 7, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. The State Department’s Bureau of African Affairs and Bureau of Economic and Business Affairs are the joint sponsors the event. The roundtable will be held at the Department of State, 2201 C St. N.W., Washington D.C. 20520, in the Loy Henderson Auditorium.
The roundtable discussion will explore ways in which we can encourage market opening reforms in AGOA-eligible countries and assist in the creation of an environment that welcomes foreign direct investment and leads to good governance. It is being held in preparation for the January 2003 United States-Sub-Saharan African Trade and Cooperation Forum in Mauritius.
The program will begin with remarks by Secretary of Commerce Donald Evans and United States Trade Representative Robert Zoellick, followed by a roundtable discussion on business linkage. Secretary of the Treasury Paul O’Neill will then address the forum, followed by a roundtable discussion on investment. Remarks by Secretary of State Colin Powell will conclude the program.
Representatives of the press are invited to attend. Media representatives may cover this event upon presentation of either (1) a U.S. government-issued identification card (Department of State, White House, Congress, Department of Defense, or Foreign Press Center), (2) a photo ID issued by the employing media organization, or (3) a letter on official letterhead from their news organization verifying their employment as a journalist, accompanied by an official photo ID (driver’s license or passport). All journalists will enter the Department of State through the 23rd Street entrance.
