Lawsuit Against Turkey's Justice and Development Party (AKP) (Taken Question)

Question: Is the U.S. opposed to Turkey's chief prosecutor seeking to ban the Justice and Development Party (AKP)?

Answer: As stated on October 31, the United States opposes the banning of political parties that express their views in a peaceful and democratic manner. We support democracy and broad political participation in Turkey and elsewhere. Democracy is most successful when there is a free and open debate, including in elections.
