Partnership for Prosperity Workshop to Highlight E-Commerce and Small Business Development in Mexico
The U.S. and Mexican governments are jointly sponsoring a workshop on "E-Commerce and Small Business Development in southern Mexico," November 12-13 in Villahermosa, Mexico.
Part of the two governments’ "Partnership for Prosperity" initiative, the workshop will provide practical training for Mexican entrepreneurs, primarily in southern Mexico, on how they can use electronic commerce to grow their businesses and expand into new global markets. It will feature panel discussions by e-commerce experts, presentations by senior government officials, and demonstrations of e-commerce products and resources by leading ICT companies.
Ambassador David A. Gross, U.S. Coordinator for International Communication and Information Policy, will lead the U.S. delegation to the workshop.
Along with the U.S. State Department, the Mexican Ministry of Transport and Communications and the Mexican Ministry of Economy are workshop co-sponsors. The U.S. Department of Commerce, U.S. Agency for International Development, Oracle Corporation and Intel Corporation are also lending critical technical and other support.
Presidents George W. Bush and Vicente Fox launched the U.S.-Mexico "Partnership for Prosperity" in September 2001. Its purpose is to encourage development in Mexico so that underdeveloped regions can participate more fully in the growing global economy. Helping small businesses participate in the new information economy is one of the goals of "Partnership for Prosperity" and complements the Mexican government’s "E-Mexico" program, which seeks to bring Internet connectivity and its ensuing benefits to all parts of the country.
