Answer: In response to the World Food Program appeal for the September 2002 through March 2003 time period, the United States is now making 208,000 metric tons of food commodities available to Zimbabwe. Approximately 127,000 metric tons is now in country or in the region. The balance is en route from the United States.
The entire allocation of food assistance for Zimbabwe—208,000 metric tons—is valued at approximately $104 million.
In addition, the U.S. Agency for International Development is providing almost $3 million in non-food, humanitarian assistance. This includes the provision of seeds to farmers, hospital-based feeding programs for malnourished children, and monitoring of internal displacement within Zimbabwe. |
