Transfer of Mitrovica to United Nations Control

The United States strongly supports UN Special Representative Michael Steiner’s efforts to re-integrate the divided Kosovo city of Mitrovica. On November 25, the municipal administration of North Mitrovica was peacefully transferred to the control of the UN Mission in Kosovo. We also welcome Special Representative Steiner’s decision to move the Kosovo Trust Agency to North Mitrovica by week’s end in accordance his overall plan to promote reconciliation and improved economic conditions in Mitrovica.

We encourage the residents of Mitrovica to embrace these steps as a means to bring about security, stability and economic growth to all of Mitrovica.
