Secretary of State Colin L. Powell To Deliver Remarks At Heritage Foundation to Launch the U.S.-Middle East Partnership InitiativeSecretary of State Colin L. Powell will launch the U.S-Middle East Partnership Initiative in remarks to the Heritage Foundation, on Thursday, December 12, 2002 at 1:00 p.m. (Lehrman Auditorium at the Heritage Foundation, 214 Massachusetts Avenue, NE, Washington). The Initiative will provide funding and a framework for the United States to work together with governments and people in the Arab world to expand economic, educational and political opportunity. Secretary Powell will not respond to questions from the press.
The Initiative will also serve as a forum for the United States and governments and people in the Middle East to strengthen cultural and economic ties. Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage is serving as Coordinator for this Initiative, which is being managed by the Department of State Bureau of Near East Affairs.
