U.S. Assistance to the Countries of Central Asia (Taken Question)

Question: What are the current levels of U.S. assistance to the countries of Central Asia for FY2002? 

Answer: Total assistance to Central Asia for FY2002 (including the fall supplemental and regular FY2002 budgets) is $408 million.  The following is a country-by-country breakdown:

Kazakhstan            $81.6 million
Kyrgyzstan            $49.0 million
Tajikistan            $85.3 million
Turkmenistan            $16.4 million
Uzbekistan            $161.8 million 

Central Asian regional (for programs active in more than one country): $13.9 million

Question: What were the levels of U.S. assistance for the countries of Central Asia for FY 2001?

Answer: Total assistance to Central Asia in FY2001 was $244.2 million.  The following is a country-by-country breakdown:

Kazakhstan            $71.5 million
Kyrgyzstan            $40.6 million
Tajikistan            $56.4 million
Turkmenistan            $12.2 million
Uzbekistan            $55.9 million

Central Asian regional: $7.6 million
