U.S.-Israel Joint Economic Development GroupThe United States and Israel held useful and productive discussions today on Israel and the global economy in the year 2002 and beyond, through the annual Joint Economic Development Group meeting. The group was co-chaired by Ambassador Alan Larson, Under Secretary of State for Economic, Business and Agricultural Affairs, and Mr. Ohad Marani, Budget Director and Director General of the Israeli Ministry of Finance. The delegations consisted of economic officials from the U.S. and Israel as well private sector participants from the two countries.
The two delegations discussed economic policies in both the U.S. and Israel, including in the areas of fiscal and budgetary policy, monetary policy, and developments in labor markets. The two delegations agreed on the importance of policies that will foster sustainable global economic growth generally, and specifically in the Israeli economy to ensure that Israel remains a focus of international high technology investment. The private sector participants identified areas where the respective comparative advantages of U.S. and Israeli entrepreneurs and business environments could be combined to enhance strategic partnerships and strategic cooperation.
