Release of the 2001 Country Reports on Human Rights Practices

Assistant Secretary of State for Democracy, Human Rights and Labor Lorne Craner will deliver opening remarks to the press on the release of the 2001 Country Reports on Human Rights Practices and then will respond to questions from the press. Assistant Secretary Craner’s on-the-record, on camera remarks will begin at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, March 4 in the State Department Press Briefing Room (room 2209).  At the conclusion of the briefing, the Department of State will publicly release the 2001 Country Reports on Human Rights Practices.

Advance Copies of the Embargoed Release

At 9:00 a.m. on Monday, March 4, the Office of Press Relations will make available the entire embargoed Human Rights Report on CD-ROM for members of the press to review.  The CD-ROMs will be issued on a first-come, first-served basis; only one CD-ROM will be given to each media organization.  The CD-ROMs must be picked up in person at the Press Office (Room 2109).  Any courier sent to collect a copy must have media identification to be admitted into the building.  Journalists and couriers are reminded to enter through the 23rd Street Lobby.  All documents are embargoed until the conclusion of the State Department's on-the-record briefing, approximately 3:30 p.m. (EST).

Electronic Access to the Country Reports via the Internet

The Bureau of Public Affairs will place the full text of the Country Reports on the State Department's web site, www.state.gov after the conclusion of the press briefing. 

Book Form

The U.S. Government Printing Office will publish and offer bound copies of the full report for sale at its bookstores in the coming weeks.
