North Korea -- Meetings in New York

Question:
Ambassador Pritchard met with North Korean Ambassador Pak Gil-yon on March 13. When was the last such meeting? Have there been any other meetings since the President's State of the Union Address?

Answer:
Since taking up his current responsibilities as Special Envoy for Negotiations with North Korea, Ambassador Pritchard met with Ambassador Li Hyong Chol, Ambassador Pak's predecessor as North Korea's Permanent Representative to the UN, on June 13, 2001. Ambassador Pritchard hosted a farewell luncheon for Ambassador Li on November 16, 2001, and had an introductory meeting with Ambassador Pak on January 10, 2002.

Meanwhile, our discussions through the New York channel have continued at the working level since the outset of the Administration, with occasional face-to-face meetings, including since the President's State of the Union address.
