Question Taken at January 14 2003 Daily Press Briefing

Colombia: Amount of Aid Given by the United States to the Combat Air Command Unit One (Taken Question)

Question: How much assistance has the United States given to Colombia’s Combat Air Command Unit One prior to our decision to suspend further aid to that unit?

Answer: The decision to suspend any future assistance was taken in view of the Colombian Air Force’s inadequate response to the events of December 13, 1998, in Santo Domingo. As part of our general assistance programs with the Colombian Air Force, until recently, we had provided Combat Air Command Unit One with equipment, some training, limited amounts of fuel, and funds for the upgrading of aircraft that had been assigned to the unit.
