United States Signs Science and Technology Agreement with Bangladesh

The United States and the People’s Republic of Bangladesh signed an Agreement on Scientific and Technical Cooperation in Dhaka on Saturday, March 1, 2003. The Agreement establishes a legal framework to facilitate broad, bilateral cooperation in science and technology between both public and private entities from the United States and Bangladeshi scientific communities.

Assistant Secretary of State for South Asia Christina B. Rocca signed the Agreement on behalf of the United States and Minister of Science and Information & Communication Technology Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan signed on behalf of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh.

Bangladesh is the first country in South Asia with which the United States has signed such an umbrella science and technology agreement. This Agreement contains the flexibility to allow each party to gain substantial benefits from the implementing activities. Upon implementation, Bangladesh will be the 30th country with which the United States has an active broad scientific and technical cooperation agreement.
