Answer: We support the goal of Taiwan's participation in the work of the World Health Organization, including observer status, and have long worked closely with Taiwan authorities to advance that objective. We have urged the World Health Organization and its members to find appropriate ways for Taiwan to participate, including observer status. We will continue to do so.
The United States does not support Taiwan's membership in organizations that require statehood for membership.
The SARS outbreak again underscores the importance of engaging all members of the international community in finding solutions to global problems like the spread of disease. Released on April 9, 2003 |
