Secretary of State Colin L. Powell To Address the Foreign Policy Association and Receive the Foreign Policy Association Medal

Secretary of State Colin L. Powell will address the Foreign Policy Association’s Annual Dinner on the topic of transatlantic relations in a 21st Century world on Wednesday, May 7, 2003 at 8:40 p.m. at the New York Hilton, 1335 Avenue of the Americas (at 53rd Street), New York, NY.  Also, Secretary Powell and Secretary-General of the Council of the European Union and High Representative for Common Foreign and Security Policy Javier Solana will receive the Foreign Policy Association Medal, which recognizes individuals who demonstrate responsible internationalism and work to expand public knowledge of international affairs.

The Foreign Policy Association, founded in 1918, is a New York-based independent nonprofit education organization that strengthens democracy by developing awareness, understanding, and informed opinion on U.S. foreign policy and global issues. 

Remarks and award presentations are open for press coverage. Members of the media must be registered to attend.  To register, contact Natalia Labenskyj at (212) 481-8100 ext. 256 or press@fpa.org.  Pre-set and final access times are still to be determined.

Media representatives may cover this event upon presentation of one of the following:  (1) a U.S. government-issued identification card (Department of State, White House, Congress, Department of Defense, or Foreign Press Center); (2) a photo ID issued by the employing media organization; or (3) a letter on official letterhead from employing organization verifying employment as a journalist, accompanied by an official photo ID (valid driver’s license or passport).
