State Department Honors Private Partners' Contributions to Clear Landmines in Armenia and Mozambique

Lincoln P. Bloomfield, Jr., Special Representative of the President and Secretary of State for Mine Action, will formally express appreciation to the Humpty Dumpty Institute, the Children of Armenia Fund, and SkyLink Aviation on Wednesday, June 18, 2003, for their contributions to support landmine clearance in Armenia and Mozambique. The ceremony will take place in the Treaty Room at the U.S. Department of State from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Special Representative Bloomfield, who also serves as Assistant Secretary of State for Political-Military Affairs, will deliver opening remarks. Michael Sonnenfeldt, Co-chair of the Humpty Dumpty Institute; Garo Armen, Chairman of the Children of Armenia Fund; and Surjit Babra, Chairman and President of SkyLink Aviation, will also speak.

Under the auspices of the Bureau of Political-Military Affairs' humanitarian mine action public-private partnership program, the Children of Armenia Fund will help to provide mine detecting dogs to Armenia's Mine Action Center. SkyLink Aviation will fund the training and equipping of Mozambican humanitarian deminers.

This event is open for press coverage. Media representatives attending the event will use the 23rd Street entrance, between C and D Streets, NW.

Media representatives will be escorted to the Treaty Room from the 23rd Street Entrance of the U.S. Department of State. Pre-set time for cameras is 10:30 a.m. and final access from 23rd Street for all press is 11:15 a.m.

Media representatives may cover this event upon presentation of either (1) a U.S. Government-issued identification card (Department of State, White House, Congress, Department of Defense, or Foreign Press Center), (2) a photo ID issued by the employing media organization, or (3) a letter on official letterhead from their news organization verifying their employment as journalists, accompanied by an official photo ID (driver's license or passport).
