Department of State Facilitates Delivery of Equipment and Supplies to the Iraq National Museum

The Department of State, in cooperation with the Packard Humanities Institute, is providing computers, photographic equipment and related supplies to the Iraq National Museum in Baghdad. State Department contract archaeologists assisted in identifying appropriate equipment for use by museum staff and have also provided a modicum of training to staff in the use of the equipment. This initiative is supported by a grant from the Packard Humanities Institute

This undertaking is intended to make the offices of the museum functional again so that staff can carry out their day-to-day responsibilities with computers and related technological support, as well as standard office materials and supplies. The Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, in consultation with the Office of Coalition Provisional Authority, will continue to address the urgent needs of the Iraqi Antiquities Department and the Iraq National Museum.

The Department of State is grateful for the support of the Packard Humanities Institute (PHI) and looks forward to a continued partnership with the Institute in directing private/public resources to the overall reconstruction of Iraq's cultural heritage infrastructure. The Department's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs is the point of contact for such efforts.
