U.S. Supports Conclusion of Inter-Congolese Dialogue

The United States welcomes the June 30 announcement of the formation of the transitional government in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, an important step in the democratic process in that country. The United States supports the formation of the transitional government as progress towards a peaceful resolution of the crisis in the Congo, which should culminate in the holding of the democratic elections.

The United States commends Congolese President Joseph Kabila and the other parties to the transitional arrangement for achieving agreement on all outstanding issues, allowing the formation of an inclusive transitional government.

The United States also thanks United Nations Secretary General’s Special Envoy, Moustapha Niasse and United Nations Secretary General’s Special Envoy Maurice Baril, for their efforts in support of the Congolese peace process.

Released on July 3, 2003
