Assistant Secretary Patricia S. Harrison to Address Annual Meeting of National Conference of State Legislatures

On Friday, July 25, Patricia S. Harrison, Assistant Secretary of State for Educational and Cultural Affairs and acting-Under Secretary for Public Affairs and Public Diplomacy, will address the National Conference of State Legislatures during the plenary session of its Annual Meeting at the Moscone Center, 135 Exhibit Level, 747 Howard Street in San Francisco, CA. Assistant Secretary Harrison’s remarks, “People-to-People Diplomacy: Investment in the Future,” begin at 9:45 am and are open for press coverage.

Assistant Secretary Harrison will address the challenges facing public diplomacy and the need to connect U.S. and foreign audiences at all levels. Since September 11, a greater urgency exists to initiate and facilitate more meaningful dialogue between Americans and moderate voices everywhere in the world. During this plenary session, she will discuss the role of people-to-people diplomacy in U.S. foreign policy and how states can get involved in this critical investment in our nation's future.

The National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) is the official nonpartisan organization of state legislators and their staff. Founded in 1975, Conference works to improve the quality and effectiveness of state legislatures; promote policy innovation and communication among state legislatures; and to ensure state legislatures a strong, cohesive voice in the federal system.
