Lateral Repatriation Program

2003/994

Question:   Has the State Department been consulted by the Department of Homeland Security regarding the Lateral Repatriation Program and is there a reaction to the reported "condemnation" by the Mexican Government of the program?

Answer:   The Department of State maintains regular contact with the Department of Homeland Security, including with respect to the pilot Lateral Repatriation Program. The Government of Mexico has expressed its concerns about some aspects of the Lateral Repatriation Program and we continue to be in contact with them about these issues. Further questions on the Lateral Repatriation Program should be directed to the Department of Homeland Security.
