U.S. Department of State to Welcome It's Academic"

The Department of State and the World Affairs Council have teamed up again to welcome the popular television quiz show, “It’s Academic,” for a special match celebrating International Education Week on Wednesday, November 19 at 12:10 pm. “It’s Academic,” the nation’s foremost high school quiz program that was recently recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records as the world’s longest-running TV quiz program, is broadcast in the metropolitan Washington area.

This year’s event offers a thoroughly international twist on the show. Whereas last year students from the Washington area competed in the match, this year’s match will be among students from the Islamic Saudi Academy, the French International School and American students from Washington area high schools.

The “It’s Academic”event will take place in the Loy Henderson Conference Room at 12:10 p.m. Reporters covering this event who do not have a Department of State building pass should arrive at the 23rd street entrance no later than 11:30 a.m. to process through security. Cameras can pre-set from 10:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Media representatives and camera operators may re-enter the conference room at 12 pm.

Media representatives who plan to attend must present one of the following press credentials: (1) a U.S. Government-issued identification card (Department of State, White House, Congress, Department of Defense, or Foreign Press Center), (2) a media-issued photo identification card, or (3) a letter from their employer on letterhead verifying their employment as a journalist, accompanied by an official photo identification (driver’s license or passport).
