Travel to Asia by Deputy Secretary Armitage

Deputy Secretary of State Richard L. Armitage will travel January 28 through February 4 to the People's Republic of China, Mongolia, and Japan for discussions with senior leaders in the three countries on issues of mutual interest.

In particular, in Japan, the Deputy Secretary will participate with Vice Foreign Minister for Foreign Affairs Yukio Takeuchi in the U.S.-Japan Strategic Dialogue. They will be joined on the second day by Dr. Ashton Calvert, Secretary of Australia's Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, for a trilateral discussion. Both the bilateral and trilateral talks will cover a broad range of issues of mutual interest, such as the situation in North Korea and Iraq reconstruction.
