Anti-Trafficking Official John Miller Traveling to AsiaFormer U.S. Representative John Miller, senior advisor to Secretary of State Colin L. Powell and director of the State Department’s Office to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons, will travel to Asia this week to address the issue of human trafficking. His trip will include stops in Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Cambodia, and Japan.
The visit follows President George Bush’s call on world leaders at the September 2003 United Nations General Assembly to accelerate efforts to stop trafficking. The visit also comes as the State Department prepares to draft the congressionally-mandated Trafficking in Persons Report, which is issued each June. The Trafficking in Persons Report assesses the efforts of many countries around the world to prevent human trafficking, protect victims of trafficking, and prosecute traffickers.
Miller will meet with U.S. and foreign government officials, NGO representatives, and victims of human trafficking to continue building partnerships in the global fight against this modern-day form of slavery.
