Secretary of State Colin L. Powell to Travel to Germany, Belgium

Secretary of State Colin L. Powell will travel to Berlin and Brussels at the end of the month. He will depart Washington on Tuesday, March 30 and will return Friday, April 2.

In Berlin, Secretary Powell will hold bilateral meetings and attend the International Conference on Afghanistan, scheduled to take place March 31-April 1. The German Government will host the conference, and the Afghan Government will lead the conference, reaffirming the long-term commitment of the international community to the political, economic and security future of Afghanistan.

In Brussels, the Secretary will participate with other NATO Foreign Ministers in an April 2 event marking the formal accession of the seven newest Allies. NATO Foreign Ministers will then meet to discuss the Alliance's agenda for its June Summit in Istanbul.
