Question Taken at March 22, 2004 Daily Press Briefing

Nature of the Relationship Between the United States and Brazilian Security Services

Question: What is the nature of the relationship between the U.S. and Brazilian security services?

Answer: While we do not comment on intelligence matters, we can say that United States and Brazilian security services enjoy a friendly relationship and work together in a variety of areas. We understand that a former employee of the Federal Bureau of Investigation has made a number of unsupported statements concerning his career to the Brazilian media. We note that the employee in question has been removed from the rolls and his comments should be read with that in mind.
