Frederick Allen Schaefer was arrested more than a year ago in Belize on immigration and passport violations and served a year in a Belize prison. Upon his release, Belize authorities contacted the special agent assigned to the U.S. Embassy Belize, who in turn convinced the U.S. Marshals Service to adopt the warrant.
Through coordination with the Diplomatic Security agent in Belize and the U.S. Marshals Service, Schaefer was returned to the United States and taken into custody in Houston. California will seek Schaefer's extradition from Texas where he faces one year in prison for the parole violation and up to ten years in prison for failure to register as a sex offender.
