Question Taken at the April 20, 2004 Daily Press Briefing

China: Vice President Cheney's Speech

Question:    What's your reaction to the reported Chinese censorship of the Vice President's remarks at Fudan University?  What have you done about it?

Answer:    The Vice President’s speech was broadcast live on television as previously agreed.  However, we are disappointed that the full text of his remarks at Fudan University were not published as delivered in China's state-controlled media.

The full text of the Vice President’s remarks and the student body questions and answers are now available online in Chinese at the U.S. Consulate Shanghai Web site.

Question:    Has the Vice President raised concerns with the Chinese?

Answer:    We refer you to the White House for a response.
