Macedonian Presidential Election

The United States congratulates the winner of Macedonia's presidential elections, Branko Crvenkovski. We also applaud the citizens of Macedonia for affirming their commitment to democracy in challenging circumstances following the tragic death of President Boris Trajkovski.

We look to President-elect Crvenkovski to continue in the path of stability and progress set by Boris Trajkovski through abiding commitments to strengthening interethnic relations and advancing Macedonia's Euro-Atlantic integration. We encourage President-elect Crvenkovski in his new capacity as President to uphold as priorities the completion of Framework Agreement implementation and the reforms necessary to bring Macedonia closer to NATO and EU membership.

We look forward to continuing excellent cooperation with President-elect Crvenkovski and hope that his tenure as Head of State will see relations between the people of Macedonia and the people of the United States grow even closer.
