Daily Briefing for May 11

Sudan Travel Permits

Question:   How many days have the six individuals on the DART team been waiting in Khartoum for permits to get to Darfur?

Answer:   We do not wait for the team to get to Khartoum before applying for travel permits.

As soon as USAID receives visas for its DART members from the Sudanese embassy, it sends in applications for travel permits to Darfur for them.

As was announced last week, the visas were received from the embassy on May 4. Travel permit applications were submitted to the Sudanese government in Khartoum the following morning.
