Azerbaijan Bolsters Anti-Terrorism Participation

The U.S. welcomes Azerbaijan's accession to all 12 of the international counter-terrorism conventions and protocols that we track in our annual Patterns of Global Terrorism report. We applaud Azerbaijan for this achievement. Azerbaijan is a solid partner in the global war on terror, with a history of pursuing terrorists within its borders and either trying them under Azerbaijani law or rendering them to countries seeking justice. Azerbaijan has strengthened anti-money laundering laws and has acted to freeze assets and close accounts held by known terrorist financiers. Azerbaijani law makes terrorism a crime punishable by life sentence.
