United States calls for a Comprehensive Investigation into the Death of American Citizen Mario Medina, Jr.

United States calls for a Comprehensive Investigation into the Death of American Citizen Mario Medina, Jr.

The United States is distressed over the death in Mexico of American citizen Mario Medina, Jr. Mr. Medina was stabbed repeatedly while being held in a prison in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico. Prior to Mr. Medina’s death, the Department of State directly and through our Embassy in Mexico City communicated U.S. Government concerns about credible allegations of torture and limited consular access associated with his case. We urge the Mexican Government to conduct a thorough investigation into all aspects of this case.

We extend our condolences to Mr. Medina’s family.
