Secretary of State Colin L. Powell to Deliver Commencement Address for Cesar Chavez Public Charter High School

Secretary of State Colin L. Powell will deliver the commencement address for the twenty-nine graduating students of the Cesar Chavez Public Charter High School for Public Policy on Friday, May 28, at 3:00 p.m. The ceremony will be held at the Lincoln Theater, 1215 U Street, NW, Washington, DC.

Since opening with a class of 60 ninth graders in September 1998, Chavez has become a nationally acclaimed charter school. The Cesar Chavez Public Charter School for Public Policy is known for its unique public policy program and high college-acceptance rate (100% of Chavez’s first two graduating classes were accepted into at least one college or university). The 2004 graduation will be held at the historic Lincoln Theater, not far from the modest facility --- an old laundry --- that currently serves as the school’s home.

This event is open for press coverage.

Pre-set time for cameras: 2:00 p.m.
Final access time for all press: 2:30 p.m.

Media representatives who plan to attend must present one of the following press credentials: (1) a U.S. government-issued identification card (Department of State, White House, Congress, Department of Defense or Foreign Press Center), (2) a media-issued photo identification card, or (3) a letter from their employer on original letterhead verifying their employment as a journalist, accompanied by an official photo identification (driver’s license or passport).
