Kuwaiti donations to Operation Iraqi Freedom Families' Funds

Deputy Secretary of State Richard L. Armitage met this morning with Sheikh Saud Naser al Sabah, former Kuwaiti ambassador to the U.S. and current vice chairman of the "Kuwait Committee to Support the Families of Those Coalition Force Members Lost During Operation Iraqi Freedom." The Committee donated $3.5 million last month to the U.S. Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund. The committee consists of private Kuwaiti citizens and contributors, including His Highness, the Amir of Kuwait, who personally donated $1 million.

Deputy Secretary Armitage praised the committee’s effort, calling their donation "noble and noteworthy." The Department of State expresses its profound appreciation for the generosity of these individuals in support of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the cause of freedom in the Middle East.
