International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda Convicts Former Finance Minister

The United States notes that the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR) convicted Emmanuel Ndindabahizi, a former Minister of Finance for the Rwandan Interim Government, of genocide and crimes against humanity on July 15 and sentenced him to life imprisonment. The United States welcomes this important ruling. It holds accountable perpetrators of these terrible atrocities and represents important progress being made by the ICTR. In the past six months, the ICTR has successfully completed six trials. The United States strongly supports the ICTR in bringing to justice those who have committed serious violations of international humanitarian law.

The United States urges all governments in the region to fulfill their international obligations to apprehend Felicien Kabuga and all other persons indicted for genocide by the ICTR who have gained refuge on their soil.
