Secretary of State Colin L. Powell To Deliver Opening Remarks at the Haiti Donors Conference

Secretary of State Colin L. Powell will deliver the opening remarks at the Haiti Donor Conference on July 20, 2004, in the Lewis T. Preston Auditorium at the World Bank Headquarters, 1818 H Street, NW, Washington, DC. Secretary Powell will address the ongoing American commitment to improve the lives of the Haitian people, and highlight the efforts made by Haiti’s Interim Government to restore democracy and the rule of law to the country’s institutions. The Secretary will also announce the U.S. contribution to help Haiti and its Interim Government as it rebuilds and prepares for national elections in 2005.

Secretary Powell’s remarks are open for press coverage and are scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m.

Cameras may begin to set up at 7:30 a.m.
Final access time for all press is 8:15 a.m.

Media representatives who plan to attend must present one of the following press credentials: (1) a U.S. government-issued identification card (Department of State, White House, Congress, Department of Defense or Foreign Press Center), (2) a media-issued photo identification card, or (3) a letter from their employer on original letterhead verifying their employment as a journalist, accompanied by an official photo identification (driver’s license or passport).
