U.S.-China Global Issues Forum

The United States and the People's Republic of China held talks today, November 15, on the proposed "U.S.-China Global Issues Forum. The Forum's objective is to strengthen current cooperation between the United States and China on transnational issues and explore new avenues for joint work on a global basis.

Dr. Paula J. Dobriansky, Under Secretary of State for Global Affairs, and Mr. Shen Guofang, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China also discussed other global and multilateral issues, including: financing for development, poverty eradication, food aid, humanitarian and development assistance, and women’s issues; clean energy, global environmental challenges and climate; international law enforcement, counter-narcotics, and trafficking-in-persons; and public health and infectious disease, including international disease surveillance efforts. They agreed to continue their consultations in this regard.
