New Liberian Elections Reform LawThe United States welcomes the Liberian elections reform signed into law by the Chairman of the National Transitional Government of Liberia on December 17, 2004. According to the National Elections Commission and the United Nations, this law will form the basis for free and fair elections in Liberia, no later than October 2005, in accordance with the terms of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement signed in Accra August 18, 2003. As such, it marks an important milestone in implementation of the agreement, and the establishment of representative democracy in Liberia.
