U.S. Position on Candidate to be Elected Secretary General of the Organization of American StatesThe United States continues to support a consensus candidate from Central America, preferably a former President, to become the Secretary General of the Organization of American States. We will evaluate all candidates on their merits and seek consensus with the other 33 OAS member states to determine who is most qualified to hold this very important post.
