| Taken Question Office of the Spokesman Washington, DC February 22, 2005 Question Taken at Daily Briefing of Feb. 22, 2005 Death of U.S. Citizens in MexicoQuestion: Any State Department reaction to the killing of two U.S. citizens in Mexico? What were the circumstances surrounding their death?
Answer: The United States extends its condolences to the families of two American citizens whose bodies were identified in a morgue in Morelia, the capital of the State of Michoacán, on February 19. Officials at the U.S. Embassy are providing consular assistance to family members of the deceased, including facilitating the repatriation of the victims’ remains to Dallas. The two American citizens had been reported missing to the U.S. Embassy in Mexico City on February 15. Preliminary information suggests these men were killed execution-style. The Mexican Attorney General’s office is investigating this crime and believes the deaths may be drug-related. We welcome the Mexican Attorney General’s investigation and urge Mexican authorities to bring the parties responsible to justice. 2005/226
