Burma - Anniversary of the National League for Democracy

September 27 marks the 17th anniversary of the formation of the National League for Democracy. Fifteen years after its decisive victory in Burma's last elections, the League and its members continue to be denied an opportunity by the country's military rulers to exercise freely their political rights and play a meaningful role in helping shape the country’s future. The United States reaffirms its support for Aung San Suu Kyi, the National League for Democracy and all others around the world who promote freedom, democracy and respect for human rights for all the people of Burma.
