Under Secretary for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs Karen Hughes to Travel to Indonesia and Malaysia

Under Secretary Karen Hughes will travel to Indonesia and Malaysia from October 20 through October 24. She will visit Jakarta, Aceh and Kuala Lumpur.

During her trip, Under Secretary Hughes will meet with students, non-governmental organizations, senior government officials and attend several Iftaar dinners to hear their views and to discuss common interests and challenges. She will also view reconstruction efforts in Aceh.

Under Secretary Hughes will return through Honolulu, Hawaii, on October 25, where she will speak at the Bureau of East Asia and Pacific Affairs Chiefs of Mission and Public Affairs Officer Conferences and meet with students at the East – West Center. While in Honolulu, Ms. Hughes will also meet with Governor Linda Lingle to discuss America’s public diplomacy efforts in the Asia Pacific region.
