Under Secretary for Political Affairs R. Nicholas Burns to Deliver Policy Address on U.S.-India Relations Tuesday, October 18, 2005

Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs R. Nicholas Burns will deliver an address on U.S.-India relations at the Asia Society on Tuesday, October 18, 12:00 pm, at the Asia Society in New York City (725 Park Avenue).

Under Secretary Burns’ speech comes exactly three months after Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s historic visit to Washington to meet with President Bush, which resulted in a groundbreaking agreement on a wide range of cooperative initiatives and the launching of a new strategic partnership between the U.S and India. Under Secretary Burns will deliver his remarks before departing to New Delhi to continue our engagement with the Indian Government. The speech will be a comprehensive account of U.S. policy toward India.

Under Secretary Burns’ remarks will be open for press coverage, however space is limited. Press who wish to cover the event must confirm in advance with Elaine Merguerian or Jennifer Suh at (212) 327-9271 by 12:00 pm, Monday, October 17. Press Registration will take place 11:15 am -12:00 pm.

Media may also cover the proceedings in Washington via interactive teleconference at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, 6th floor auditorium, Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center (One Woodrow Wilson Plaza, 1300 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW). Media must confirm in advance with the Asia Society Washington Center at (202) 833-2742 by 5:00 pm, Monday, October 17. Press Registration will take place 11:30 am to noon at the Woodrow Wilson International Center 6th Floor auditorium.
