Hamadi Case

Question: Did the United States renew its extradition request after being notified by the German Government that Mohammad Ali Hamadi would be released?

Answer: No.

The U.S. request to Germany for Hamadi’s extradition was denied almost 20 years ago. Mr. Hamadi was subsequently tried and convicted in Germany, where he had been imprisoned ever since.

Our extradition treaty does not permit Germany to extradite a fugitive to the United States on the same charges for which he has already been tried and convicted in Germany.
