Assistant Secretary for African Affairs Jendayi Frazer to Visit Equatorial Guinea and CameroonAssistant Secretary for African Affairs, Dr. Jendayi Frazer traveled to Equatorial Guinea Monday, February 13, 2006. Assistant Secretary Frazer arrived in Malabo and met with Equato-Guinean Foreign Minister Micha Ondo Bile. Assistant Secretary Frazer will have a series of meetings with other government officials and with the American Chamber of Commerce during her stay in Malabo. She will also launch the new consular section at Embassy Malabo and visit a health clinic involved in anti-malarial efforts supported by a U.S. oil company working in the country. Dr. Frazer will then travel to Bata, on the mainland of Equatorial Guinea, where she will be hosted by President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo. Dr. Frazer and President Obiang will discuss bilateral issues. Dr. Frazer will be accompanied to Equatorial Guinea by Dr. Cindy Courville, Senior Director for African Affairs at the National Security Council.
On February 15, Assistant Secretary Frazer will depart Equatorial Guinea for Cameroon. Dr. Frazer will inaugurate the new U.S. Embassy compound in Yaoundé. Cameroonian President Paul Biya will participate in the inauguration ceremony, which will include a street-naming commemorative segment to designate the street in front of the embassy as "Avenue Rosa Parks." Dr. Frazer will hold a series of high-level meetings with government officials and will speak on United States foreign policy at the Cameroon Institute of International Relations. Dr. Frazer will also sign an Open Skies agreement with the government of Cameroon. Dr. Frazer will return to the United States on Saturday, February 18.
