Conclusion of U.S.-Colombia Free Trade TalksThe United States welcomes the successful conclusion of free trade talks with Colombia. The agreement strengthens an already close partnership with an important strategic ally. The United States and Colombia work together closely to fight drug trafficking and terrorism, and to promote democracy and prosperity in the hemisphere.
Colombia has implemented a comprehensive strategy, supported by the United States, to reduce the illegal drug trade, revitalize Colombia’s economy, safeguard its democratic institutions, and improve the security of its people. This free trade agreement promises to make an important contribution to these efforts.
