| Media Note Office of the Spokesman Washington, DC June 2, 2006 International Partnership on Avian and Pandemic Influenza Senior Officials to Meet in Vienna June 6-7The Senior Officials’ Meeting of the International Partnership on Avian and Pandemic Influenza will take place June 6-7 hosted by Austria in their role as the current President of the European Union. The U.S. is a co-chair for this meeting. President Bush announced the formation of the International Partnership at the United Nations General Assembly in September 2005. The U.S. delegation will be headed by Dr. Paula J. Dobriansky, Under Secretary for Democracy and Global Affairs, Department of State. Ambassador John E. Lange, Special Representative on Avian and Pandemic Influenza, Department of State, will also attend. The U.S. delegation will include representatives of the Department of Agriculture, the Department of Defense, the U.S. Agency for International Development, and the Department of Health and Human Services. This conference will review global progress in pandemic preparedness and response, examine the status of donor funding, pursue action for greater transparency, explore the progress on drug and vaccine development and address other issues.. More than 90 countries and 9 multinational organizations supported the first meeting of the International Partnership held October 6-7, 2005 in Washington, D.C.
