United States and Thailand to Host Global Transshipment and Enforcement Seminar in Bangkok, ThailandThe United States and Thailand will host a Global Transshipment and Enforcement Seminar in Bangkok, Thailand July 18-21, to identify ways the international community can work together to strengthen exports controls and prevent the spread of weapons of mass destruction and their delivery systems, related dual-use items, and advanced conventional arms.
John Clark, Deputy Assistant Secretary of Immigration and Customs Enforcement in the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, and Dr. Sathit Limpongpan, the Royal Thai Government’s Director General of Royal Thai Customs, will deliver keynote addresses.
Representatives of 24 countries from Europe, Asia, Africa, the Middle East, and South America will participate.
The conference will focus on the importance of nonproliferation and export controls as highlighted in United Nations Security Council Resolution 1540, which recognizes the need for states to take additional effective measures to prevent the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, and the need for enhanced coordination of efforts on national, regional, and international levels to strengthen a global response to this serious challenge and threat to international security.
