| Press Statement Tom Casey, Deputy Spokesman Washington, DC October 2, 2006 Georgia: Turnover of Russians to OSCEWe welcome the action taken by the Government of Georgia to return the four Russians arrested last week. We appreciate the assistance of the Chairman-in-Office of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), Belgian Foreign Minster Karel De Gucht, in facilitating the transfer of the officers to Russian custody. We encourage the Governments of Russia and Georgia to continue steps to de-escalate tensions in the days and weeks ahead. The United States reaffirms its support for Georgia’s territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders and reiterates its call for the peaceful resolution of the South Ossetia and Abkhazia conflicts within Georgia. 2006/889
